Comparing the effects of mobile computers and traditional approaches in environmental education
TLDR
The computer as mobile guide can lead to an increase in environmental knowledge and in case of the children it can increase their motivation to engage in environmental education activities.Abstract:
Environmental education and computers? That was traditionally seen as an antagonism. But environmental educators who compete for attention and face new challenges in an age of mobile devices, have begun to explore the opportunities that mobile computers may offer in supporting environmental learning experiences. This study investigates the impact of a mobile guide system on different parameters of environmental literacy in comparison to traditional instruments of environmental education (i.e. brochure, human guide). In a field experiment at a floodplain conservation site, 185 school children and 76 adults participated in a guided tour using different media. Despite the novelty of mobile devices and usability issues associated with the prototype mobile nature guide, participants using the computer-assisted medium achieved similar results concerning environmental literacy components. The computer as mobile guide can lead to an increase in environmental knowledge and in case of the children it can increase their motivation to engage in environmental education activities.read more

Decoding learning:the proof, promise and potential of digital education
TL;DR: For example, the Review of Education Capital found that maintained schools spent £487 million on icT equipment and services in 2009-2010 as mentioned in this paper. But since then, the education system has entered a state of flux with changes to the curriculum, shifts in funding, and increasing school autonomy.

Mind the Gap: why do people act environmentally and what are the barriers to pro-environmental behavior?

Environmental attitude and ecological behaviour
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a unified concept of attitude and a probabilistic measurement approach to overcome three shortcomings that limit the predictive power of environmental attitude concepts: (1) the lack of an attitude, (2) a measurement correspondence between attitude and behaviour on a general level, and (3) a lack of consideration of behaviour constraints beyond people's control.

Emotional affinity toward nature as a motivational basis to protect nature
TL;DR: In this article, the authors focus on emotional motivations of nature-protective behavior, especially on a newly conceptu- alized construct: emotional affinity toward nature, and find that emotional affin- ity is as powerful as indignation and interest in nature and together these three predictors explain up to 47% of variance of the crite-rion variables, and 39% of emotional affinity towards nature traces back to present and past experiences in natural environments.
