Journal ArticleDOI

Lithics of the North African Middle Stone Age: assumptions, evidence and future directions.

TL;DR: A range of interpretations concerning early H. sapiens demography in North Africa are re-evaluated in the light of this review, and the role and power of lithic data to contribute to such debates is critically assessed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inferring number of populations and changes in connectivity under the n-island model.

TL;DR: An automated method based on the IICR (Inverse Instantaneous Coalescence Rate) is proposed, which can be estimated using the PSMC method of Li and Durbin (2011) for a single diploid individual and yielded demographic histories that are in agreement with previous studies using similar methods and with recent research suggesting ancient human structure.

A Single-Couple Human Origin is Possible

Ola Hössjer, +1 more
- 21 Oct 2019 -
TL;DR: It is suggested that a single-couple origin of humanity as recent as 500kya is possible, and with only minor modifications of the parsimonious model assumptions, 100kya, or more recently is possible.
Journal ArticleDOI

Revisiting the demographic history of Central African populations from a genetic perspective

TL;DR: How technology and population genetic methods have advanced to give more detailed inferences about population structure, migrations, admixture patterns, timing of admixture, sex-biased admixtures, and inferences of selection and adaptive introgression in rainforest hunter-gatherers and other African populations is reviewed.
