Thresholds of focal cerebral ischemia in awake monkeys

TL;DR: Some cases of acute hemiplegia, with blood flow in the paralysis range, might be improved by surgical revascularization, and studies of local CBF might help identify suitable cases for emergency revascularized.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of ischemia and electroconvulsive shock on free fatty acid pool in the brain.

TL;DR: The ratios between total saturated to total unsaturated fatty acids during ischemia and after electroshock suggest a predominance of the hydrolysis of the β-ester bond of phospholipids.
Journal ArticleDOI

What causes infarction in ischemic brain? The Robert Wartenberg Lecture

Fred Plum
- 01 Feb 1983 -
TL;DR: It is found that equal degrees of ischemia accompanied by lower tissue lactate values produce only selective neuronal damage in predictably Vulnerable areas; astrocytes and endothelia are spared and extracellular or progressive postischemic cerebral edema fails to develop.
Journal ArticleDOI

Glycolytic and Oxidative Metabolism in Relation to Retinal Function

TL;DR: It is suggested that the deleterious effects of these three sugars depend upon their cellular uptake and phosphorylation during the blockade of glycolysis by iodoacetate and addition of glucose, mannose, or 2-deoxyglucose to medium containing pyruvate and iodo acetate abolished Fast PIII and depleted the retina of its ATP.
