Electric arc welding

Muller Albert
TLDR
In this article, the high-frequency inductor or transformer disposed in the welding circuit and necessary for the injection of the highfrequency current has a core of ferrite material or powdered iron and is arranged to saturate at normal welding currents so as to offer little impedance to the flow of welding current.
Abstract
722,494. Supply systems for welding arcs. AIR REDUCTION CO., Inc. Dec. 8, 1952 [Dec. 28, 1951], No. 31074/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (4). To permit the employment of a relatively low high-frequency (say 50 to 500 kcs. per sec.) current for starting and stabilizing a D.C. or low-frequency A.C. welding arc, the highfrequency inductor or transformer disposed in the welding circuit and necessary for the injection of the high-frequency current has a core of ferrite material or powdered iron and is arranged to saturate at normal welding currents so as to offer little impedance to the flow of welding current, but to be unsaturated by the high-frequency currents alone, so as to offer high impedance to these-and thus provide good injection of high-frequency currentwhen the arc extinguishes. The high-frequency generator may comprise a push-pull valve oscillator normally cut off by external bias, but triggered into oscillation by a voltage pulse induced in a winding of the injection transformer upon interruption of the flow of welding current.

Art of casting metals

TL;DR: In this article, an inert gas welding torch is used to create plasma by directing one or more discrete high velocity jet gas streams into a welding arc between the electrode and the workpiece.

On-site rail welding apparatus

Daniel Coomer
TL;DR: In this paper, an on-site railroad rail welding repair apparatus is presented, wherein a railroad rail is an operating railroad track and a defect in the rail has been removed to provide a void and a rail-void interface while maintaining continuity of the rail having pair of cooling blocks which have an internal configuration to complement the rail, and an arc welder that fills the void with appropriate molten metal and causes the molten metal between the rail and the rail at the rail void interface to bond.

Alternating current arc power source having opposite polarity ignition pulse

TL;DR: In this paper, an alternating current arc welding with an alternating voltage power source for feeding energy to the welding arc and having a means for coupling, in series with the power source, a relatively high voltage impulse during the time the alternating voltage increases in absolute value so that the arc is re-ignited at the same phase angle during each half cycle.

Arc welding apparatus

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that it is desirable to avoid the inclusion of oxides and nitrides in the weld metal, since their inclusion causes hardness and brittleness and further degradation.
