Electric arc welding

Muller Albert
TLDR
In this article, the high-frequency inductor or transformer disposed in the welding circuit and necessary for the injection of the highfrequency current has a core of ferrite material or powdered iron and is arranged to saturate at normal welding currents so as to offer little impedance to the flow of welding current.
Abstract
722,494. Supply systems for welding arcs. AIR REDUCTION CO., Inc. Dec. 8, 1952 [Dec. 28, 1951], No. 31074/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (4). To permit the employment of a relatively low high-frequency (say 50 to 500 kcs. per sec.) current for starting and stabilizing a D.C. or low-frequency A.C. welding arc, the highfrequency inductor or transformer disposed in the welding circuit and necessary for the injection of the high-frequency current has a core of ferrite material or powdered iron and is arranged to saturate at normal welding currents so as to offer little impedance to the flow of welding current, but to be unsaturated by the high-frequency currents alone, so as to offer high impedance to these-and thus provide good injection of high-frequency currentwhen the arc extinguishes. The high-frequency generator may comprise a push-pull valve oscillator normally cut off by external bias, but triggered into oscillation by a voltage pulse induced in a winding of the injection transformer upon interruption of the flow of welding current.

Prediction of weld bead geometry and penetration in shielded metal-arc welding using artificial neural networks

TL;DR: In this paper, back-propagation neural networks are used to associate welding process variables with the features of the bead geometry and penetration, and the results of these experiments show a small error percentage difference between the estimated and experimental values.

Pulse arc welding machine

TL;DR: In this article, a pulse arc welding machine is presented, where a pulse peak current supplying circuit is connected in series with an arcing region formed between a consumable wire electrode and a material to be welded between the output terminals of a standard direct current source.

Method and system for additive manufacturing using high energy source and hot-wire

TL;DR: In this article, a method and system to manufacture workpieces employing a high intensity energy source to create a puddle and at least one resistively heated wire which is heated to at or near its melting temperature and deposited into the puddle as droplets.

Ignition system for an internal combustion engine

TL;DR: In this article, an ignition system for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine eliminates high-voltage cables and a mechanical distributor in order to reduce electrical power losses due to joule effect caused mainly by the high voltage circuit, comprises a plurality of ignition coils and plugs, one provided for each cylinder, a distribution unit for distributing advance-angle control signals into the respective cylinders, and a booster for boosting the supply voltage to reduce the size of the ignition coil.
