Journal ArticleDOI

Puberty and oestral cycle length in captive female jaguars Panthera onca.

TL;DR: Assessment of gonadal hormonal profiles of natural oestral cycles and puberty in jaguar females and compared their data to those of other wild felids showed that age at maturity was influenced mostly by size and only Leopardus partially explained the observed variation, while oestrous cycle length did not differ among genera or size categories.
Book ChapterDOI

Endometrial Receptivity to Embryo Implantation: Molecular Cues from Functional Genomics

TL;DR: The endometrium is the mucous lining the uterine cavity comprised of a basal and a functional layer being the latter the one that sheds during menses and regenerates from the basal portion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microarray analyses of reptiles and amphibians: Applications in ecology and evolution

TL;DR: The potential utility of microarray analyses of reptiles and amphibians in ecology and evolution is highlighted using a proposed test of viviparity in the common European lizard and with recent publications on the ecological and evolutionary genetics of other animal systems.

Hypothalamic—Pituitary Physiology and Regulation

TL;DR: The hypothalamohypophysial system is a major controller of integrated bodily functions, working alongside with other hormonal systems, as well as with the immune and the nervous systems.

Seasonal breeding:nature's contraceptive.

TL;DR: The seasonal cycle highlights the seasonal changes in daylight length, rutting behavior, testicular diameter, sexual skin flush, and concentrations of plasma follicle-stimulating hormone, prolactin, and testosterone in a group of rams throughout the year.
Journal ArticleDOI

The physiological responses of anovulatory ewes to the introduction of rams: a review.

TL;DR: Ewes of many breeds can be stimulated to ovulate by the reintroduction of rams and appear to be effected both through a delay in the onset of the LH surge and through a direct action of progesterone on the ovary.
Journal ArticleDOI

Factors affecting the secretion of luteinizing hormone in the ewe.

TL;DR: LH is secreted as discrete pulses throughout all stages of the reproductive cycle of the ewe, including pre‐pubertal, seasonal and lactational anoestrus, and the luteal and follicular phases of the oestrous cycle.

Nutritional influences on reproduction in mature male sheep and goats

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that nutritional signals exert powerful effects on the reproductive system of mature male ruminants, and the responses are partly independent of changes in gonadotrophin secretion.
