Journal ArticleDOI

Sexual differentiation in three unconventional mammals: spotted hyenas, elephants and tammar wallabies.

TL;DR: It is concluded that not all aspects of sexual differentiation have been delegated to testicular hormones in these mammals and research on urogenital development in these non-traditional species directs attention to processes that may well be operating during the sexual differentiation of morphology and behavior in more common laboratory mammals, albeit in less dramatic fashion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of clothianidin exposure on sperm quality, testicular apoptosis and fatty acid composition in developing male rats

TL;DR: It is concluded that low doses of CTD exposure during critical stages of sexual maturation had moderate detrimental effects on reproductive organ system and more severe effects are likely to be observed at higher dose levels.
Journal ArticleDOI

The CCAAT/enhancer binding protein β is a critical regulator of steroid-induced mitotic expansion of uterine stromal cells during decidualization

TL;DR: Analysis of C/EBPbeta-null uteri revealed that it mediates the effects of steroid hormones during decidualization by modulating the expression of multiple key cell cycle regulatory factors that control the G2 to M transition of the proliferating uterine stromal cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of Aroclor 1254 on Sertoli cellular antioxidant system, androgen binding protein and lactate in adult rat in vitro

TL;DR: It is suggested that Aroclor 1254 disrupts Sertoli cellular metabolic functions such as ABP, lactate secretions and activity of antioxidant enzymes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of oxytocin on semen release response in African catfish (Clarias gariepinus)

TL;DR: The role of smooth muscle contractors in semen release and semen quality of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) is investigated and oxytocin increased sperm concentration of the medium compared to control incubations.

Book ChapterDOI

Seasonal breeding:nature's contraceptive.

TL;DR: The seasonal cycle highlights the seasonal changes in daylight length, rutting behavior, testicular diameter, sexual skin flush, and concentrations of plasma follicle-stimulating hormone, prolactin, and testosterone in a group of rams throughout the year.
Journal ArticleDOI

The physiological responses of anovulatory ewes to the introduction of rams: a review.

TL;DR: Ewes of many breeds can be stimulated to ovulate by the reintroduction of rams and appear to be effected both through a delay in the onset of the LH surge and through a direct action of progesterone on the ovary.
Journal ArticleDOI

Factors affecting the secretion of luteinizing hormone in the ewe.

TL;DR: LH is secreted as discrete pulses throughout all stages of the reproductive cycle of the ewe, including pre‐pubertal, seasonal and lactational anoestrus, and the luteal and follicular phases of the oestrous cycle.

Nutritional influences on reproduction in mature male sheep and goats

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that nutritional signals exert powerful effects on the reproductive system of mature male ruminants, and the responses are partly independent of changes in gonadotrophin secretion.
