TLDR
The results argue for the need to develop and implement educational programs focused on the recognition and treatment of mental and alcohol disorders for the general population, psychiatrists, and general medical providers, who are the main source of mental health care.Abstract:
Background
This study presents the lifetime, 12-month, and 1-month prevalence estimates of nine psychiatric and alcohol disorders in Ukraine assessed as part of the World Health Organization (WHO) World Mental Health (WMH) research program. The Ukraine WMH survey is the first psychiatric epidemiologic study in a former Soviet Union country to administer a structured psychiatric interview to a nationally representative sample.read more

Age of onset of mental disorders: a review of recent literature
Ronald C. Kessler,G. Paul Amminger,Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiola,Jordi Alonso,Sing Lee,T. Bedirhan Üstün +5 more
TL;DR: Although interventions with early incipient disorders might help reduce severity-persistence of primary disorders and prevent secondary disorders, additional research is needed on appropriate treatments forEarly incipient cases and on long-term evaluation of the effects of early intervention on secondary prevention.

TL;DR: Data is presented on the prevalence, impairment and demographic correlates of depression from 18 high and low- to middle-income countries in the World Mental Health Survey Initiative to investigate the combination of demographic risk factors that are most strongly associated with MDE in the specific countries included in the WMH.

Gender differences in depression in representative national samples: Meta-analyses of diagnoses and symptoms.
TL;DR: The gender difference in depression represents a health disparity, especially in adolescence, yet the magnitude of the difference indicates that depression in men should not be overlooked, yet cross-national analyses indicated that larger gender differences were found in nations with greater gender equity, for major depression, but not depression symptoms.

Nonparametric Estimation from Incomplete Observations

TL;DR: In this article, the product-limit (PL) estimator was proposed to estimate the proportion of items in the population whose lifetimes would exceed t (in the absence of such losses), without making any assumption about the form of the function P(t).

TL;DR: Applied Logistic Regression, Third Edition provides an easily accessible introduction to the logistic regression model and highlights the power of this model by examining the relationship between a dichotomous outcome and a set of covariables.

Ronald C. Kessler,Katherine A. McGonagle,Shanyang Zhao,Christopher B. Nelson,Michael R. Hughes,Suzann Eshleman,Hans-Ulrich Wittchen,Kenneth S. Kendler +7 more
TL;DR: The prevalence of psychiatric disorders is greater than previously thought to be the case, and morbidity is more highly concentrated than previously recognized in roughly one sixth of the population who have a history of three or more comorbid disorders.

Ronald C. Kessler,Patricia A. Berglund,Olga Demler,Robert Jin,Doreen S. Koretz,Kathleen R. Merikangas,A. John Rush,Ellen E. Walters,Philip S. Wang +8 more
TL;DR: Notably, major depressive disorder is a common disorder, widely distributed in the population, and usually associated with substantial symptom severity and role impairment, and while the recent increase in treatment is encouraging, inadequate treatment is a serious concern.
