TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyse the aims and practices of Greek historians of the fourth to the second centuries bc and show that the main obstacles when one tries to analyze the aims of these authors are the failure of most of them to survive other than in fragments, and the fact that among those fragments it is only the rare passage that touches on purpose and method.
