Evaluation of a complete denture trial method applying rapid prototyping
TLDR
A new trial method for complete dentures using rapid prototyping (RP) was compared with the conventional method, and although further improvements are needed, the trial method applying RP seems promising.Abstract:
A new trial method for complete dentures using rapid prototyping (RP) was compared with the conventional method. Wax dentures were fabricated for 10 edentulous patients. Cone-beam CT was used to scan the wax dentures. Using 3D computer-aided design software, seven 3D denture images with different artificial teeth arrangements were made and seven trial dentures per patient were fabricated accordingly. Two prosthodontists performed a denture try-in for one patient using both conventional and RP methods. The prosthodontists and patients rated satisfaction for both methods using a visual analogue scale. Satisfaction ratings with both conventional and RP methods were compared using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Regarding prosthodontist's ratings, esthetics and stability were rated significantly higher with the conventional method than with the RP method, whereas chair time was rated significantly longer with the RP method than with the conventional method. Although further improvements are needed, the trial method applying RP seems promising.read more

Fabricating complete dentures with CAD/CAM technology
TL;DR: The step-by-step method necessary to obtain impressions, maxillomandibular relation records, and anterior tooth position with an anatomic measuring device is described, which allows the generation of a virtual denture, which is milled to exact specifications without the use of conventional stone casts, flasking, or processing techniques.

Will there be a need for complete dentures in the United States in 2020
TL;DR: The clinical implications are twofold: First, practicing dentists will find that a sizable minority of the patient population will continue to need complete denture services; and second, if training in complete dentures prostheses is eliminated from the dental education curriculum, millions of patients will be forced to seek dentures services from alternative providers.

TL;DR: Clinical data suggest that computer-aided rapid prototyping of surgical guides may be useful in implant placement, however, the technique requires improvement to provide better stability of the guide during the surgery, in cases of unilateral bone-supported and non-tooth-supported guides.
