TLDR
The colour analysis showed a high L* value and the chromatic co-ordinates were in the yellow-greenish spectrum, and the use of isopropyl alcohol is recommended in ratio 1:3, since its commercial value is lower in comparison with ethanol.

Pesticides Removal by Filtration over Cactus Pear Leaves: A Cheap and Natural Method for Small-Scale Water Purification in Semi-Arid Regions

TL;DR: In this article, the efficiency of Opuntia ficus-indica for removing organochlorine pesticides from surface waters was examined through stirring and column methods, and the results of small-scale experiments suggest a strong potential to develop local small scale water treatment units that can be used at the level of individual households or local communities, using widely available adsorbent.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bioflocculants extraction from Cactaceae and their application in treatment of water and wastewater

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of extraction conditions, including solvent types and extraction temperatures on the power flocculant of the mucilage (MP), and water (WP), acid (AP), chelating (CP) and alkali-pectin (PHEX) extracted from the cladodes of Opuntia Ficus Indica (OFI) was evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kinetics and Thermodynamics of Gum Extraction from Wild Sage Seed

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of pH, temperature and water/seed ratio on the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters and entropy, enthalpy and free energy of extraction were investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Relationship between weather conditions and the physicochemical characteristics of cladodes and mucilage from two cactus pear species.

TL;DR: Environmental temperatures rather than rainfall or cladode maturity influenced the physicochemical characteristics of mucilage, and correlations showed a relationship between environmental temperatures, cladode pH and conductivity, and mucilage viscosity and yields.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modeling of ultrasound-assisted extraction, characterization and in vitro pharmacological potential of polysaccharides from Vaccinium arctostaphylos L.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that VAPs had significantly scavenging activities against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and hydroxyl radicals in vitro and can thus be used as an excellent antioxidant and antimicrobial ingredient in food and medicinal preparations.

Reporting of Objective Color Measurements

Raymond G. McGuire
- 01 Dec 1992 -
TL;DR: The analysis of color is frequently an important consideration when determining the efficacy of a variety of postharvest treatments, and many researchers continue to analyze this characteristic inappropriately.

Rheological properties of the mucilage gum (Opuntia ficus indica)

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the rheological properties of aqueous solutions of the mucilage isolated from Opuntia ficus indica and found that the viscosity was dependent on ionic strength, as in the case of polyelectrolytes.

Cacti : biology and uses

Park S. Nobel
TL;DR: This book presents a meta-anatomy of the Cacti of Mesoamerican Domestication and Diffusion, and some of the mechanisms behind its domestication and distribution, which are described in more detail in the preface.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structure and morphology of cladodes and spines of Opuntia ficus-indica. Cellulose extraction and characterisation

TL;DR: It was observed that the tensile modulus decreases as the moisture content increases and the mechanical properties of these natural spines were investigated by tensile tests at various conditioning relative humidities.
