Factors affecting the long-term results of endodontic treatment

TLDR
The predictability from clinical and radiographic signs of the treatment-outcome in individual cases with preoperative periapical lesions cases was found to be low and factors which were not measured or identified may be critical to the outcome of endodontic treatment.

Microbiologic analysis of teeth with failed endodontic treatment and the outcome of conservative re-treatment

TL;DR: The microbial flora in canals after failed endodontic therapy differed markedly from the flora in untreated teeth, and infection at the time of root filling and size of the periapical lesion had a negative influence on the prognosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of infection at the time of root filling on the outcome of endodontic treatment of teeth with apical periodontitis

TL;DR: This study investigated the role of infection on the prognosis of endodontic therapy by following-up teeth that had had their canals cleaned and obturated during a single appointment, highlighting the importance of completely eliminating bacteria from the root canal system before obturation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Current Challenges and Concepts in the Preparation of Root Canal Systems: A Review

TL;DR: This review attempts to identify factors that influence shaping outcomes with nickel-titanium rotary instruments, such as preoperative root-canal anatomy and instrument tip design, and implications of various working length definitions and desired apical widths.
Journal ArticleDOI

Periapical status of endodontically treated teeth in relation to the technical quality of the root filling and the coronal restoration

TL;DR: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship of the quality of the coronal restoration and of the root canal obturation on the radiographic periapical status of endodontically treated teeth.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pathogenesis of Apical Periodontitis and the Causes of Endodontic Failures

TL;DR: This communication is meant to provide a comprehensive overview of the etio-pathogenesis of apical periodontitis and the causes of failed endodontic treatments that can be visualized in radiographs as asymptomatic post-treatment periapical radiolucencies.

A Coefficient of agreement for nominal Scales

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a procedure for having two or more judges independently categorize a sample of units and determine the degree, significance, and significance of the units. But they do not discuss the extent to which these judgments are reproducible, i.e., reliable.
Journal ArticleDOI

The antibacterial effect of camphorated paramonochlorophenol, camphorated phenol and calcium hydroxide in the treatment of infected root canals

TL;DR: The results indicate that the endodontic treatment of infected root canals can be completed in two appointments when calcium hydroxide paste is used as an intracanal dressing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence on periapical tissues of indigenous oral bacteria and necrotic pulp tissue in monkeys

TL;DR: It was shown that noninfected necrotic pulp tissue did not induce inflammatory reactions in the apical tissues and teeth with infected pulp tissue showed inflammatory reactions clinically and radiographically, and Facultatively anaerobic streptococci, coliform rods and obligately anaerilic bacterial strains were most frequently found.
Journal ArticleDOI

Intraradicular bacteria and fungi in root-filled, asymptomatic human teeth with therapy-resistant periapical lesions: A long-term light and electron microscopic follow-up study

TL;DR: In the majority of root-filled human teeth with therapy-resistant periapical lesions, microorganisms may persist and may play a significant role in endodontic treatment failures, in certain instances such lesions may also be sustained by foreign body giant cell type of tissue responses at the periapex ofRoot-filled teeth.

How long does a endodontic treatment last?

The long-term results of endodontic treatment can vary depending on factors such as the preoperative status of the pulp and periapical tissues, instrumenting the root canal to its full length, and the level of root filling.
