TLDR
In this article , the analysis of a cylinder block assembly of an aircraft brake system that failed due to the formation of cracks was performed using a two-prong strategy (i) experimental, which included analysis of the fracture surfaces along with microstructure and composition, and (ii) numerical (finite element analysis, FEA), to find the stress state.

Few-shot fatigue damage evaluation of aircraft structure using neural augmentation and deep transfer learning

TL;DR: In this article , an intelligent evaluation method based on neural augmentation and deep transfer learning (NA-DTL) is proposed to solve the problems of few-shot samples, different structural degradation trends and poor damage evaluation effect in fatigue damage evaluation of aircraft structure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fatigue analysis of reducer transmission parts

TL;DR: In this paper , the influence of the material, structure and load of the part on the part, and analyzes the mechanical response of the transmission parts in the reducer under alternating load.

Investigation of Failure and Development of Mitigation Techniques of a Cracked Aircraft Wing Spar Cap

TL;DR: In this paper , a failure analysis of the wing spar cap was carried out through a hierarchal experimental approach where a combination of various experimental techniques (i.e., compositional analysis, stereoscopy for dimensional measurement of crack, and fractographic analysis through SEM/EDX) was employed to ascertain the cause of failure.

- 09 Jun 2023 -
TL;DR: In this article , a failure propagation probability prediction method for complex electromechanical systems, considering component states and dependencies between components, is proposed, and the fault sequence is predicted by using the prediction function of an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to obtain the fault propagation probability.

Gear Shaft Optimization Design

TL;DR: In this article , a multi-objective optimization design of gear shaft is presented, where the gear shaft structure size mainly includes length size and radius size, gear shaft shaft diameter as the optimization variable, and the maximum equivalent force is an important indicator of static performance.

Thermal Pattern Contrast Diagnostic of Microcracks With Induction Thermography for Aircraft Braking Components

TL;DR: The thermal pattern contrast method is proposed for weak thermal signal detection using eddy current pulsed thermography to enhance the detectability and sensitivity in microcrack detection and builds the motion context connected between the local and the global thermal spatial pattern.

Failure analysis of a nose landing gear fork

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed analysis of a nose landing gear failure was presented, where it was observed that fatigue cracks developed in the vicinity of the bolted holes, which work as supporting connections, on the topside of the nose fork and, as such, it can be concluded that the referred area was subjected to cyclic stresses originating and propagating cracks in the material.

Analysis of premature failure of aircraft hydraulic pipes

TL;DR: In this paper, a fracture initiated from the constrained (inlet) end as crack nucleated under the metallic sleeve on the pipe surface was observed during scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
Journal ArticleDOI

Multiaxial stress mapping and fatigue failure prediction of aircraft hydraulic pipes

TL;DR: In this article, the complete stress state was found using FEM ‘Frame 3D’ MATLAB® code and analytical stress concentration factors, and the calculated stresses not only mapped well with the fractured patterns of a failed pipe but also correlated to the computational stress analysis performed separately in an FEA software.

Failure analysis of a broken support strut of an aircraft landing gear

TL;DR: In this paper, the analysis of a nose landing gear support strut of an aircraft that failed during landing within 2 s after nose wheel touchdown was carried out, and the analysis revealed that threaded portion of an eye-end bolt of the support strut was fractured.
