TL;DR: When heated with toluene-p -sulphonic acid in the presence of methanol or dioxan, methyl linoleate gives mainly isomeric methyl octadecadienoates (∼ 22%) and 1,4-epoxides (tetrahydrofurans, ∼ 44%).
