TLDR
In this article, a 2-year community-based underwater monitoring program at the largest known fish spawning aggregation in Roviana Lagoon, Western Solomon Islands is described, where the brown-marbled grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus), camouflage grouper and squaretail coralgrouper (Plectropomus areolatus) co-aggregate.

Dispersal of grouper larvae drives local resource sharing in a coral reef fishery.

TL;DR: Using genetic parentage analysis, larval dispersal from a single, managed spawning aggregation of squaretail coral grouper is measured and its contribution to fisheries replenishment within five community tenure areas up to 33 km from the aggregation at Manus Island, Papua New Guinea is determined.

A review of the past, the present, and the future of fishers' knowledge research: a challenge to established fisheries science

TL;DR: Fishers' knowledge research is an approach to fisheries research that has a relatively long history, yet has generally failed to become integrated into the fisheries science mainstream alongside approaches that rely primarily on the knowledge of professional scientists as mentioned in this paper.

The Ecology of Ghost Crabs

TL;DR: Oceanography and Marine Biology: An Annual Review as discussed by the authors has been a popular reference text for researchers and students in all fields of marine science and related subjects, and it finds a place in libraries of not only marine stations and institutes, but also universities.

Reproductive strategies of coastal marine fishes in the tropics

TL;DR: It is concluded that temperate zone models of reproductive strategy are inapplicable to many fishes of the coastal tropics and offshore larval dispersal does not seem to be an adaptation for dispersal of the species, but rather an evolutionary response to intense predation pressure in the adult habitats.

Ignore fishers’ knowledge and miss the boat

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe five examples of how, by ignoring fishers' ecological knowledge (FEK), marine researchers and resource managers may put fishery resources at risk, or unnecessarily compromise the welfare of resource users.

Delineating the Coral Triangle

TL;DR: This study shows that the Coral Triangle, an area extending from the Philippines to the Solomon Islands, has 605 zooxanthellate corals including 15 re- gional endemics, which amounts to 76% of the world's total species complement, giving this province theWorld's highest conservation priority.
