TLDR
The purpose of this study was to investigate disability in persons after stroke by using combinations of functional assessment item, subscale, domain, and full-scale scores, to predict (1) the burden of care measured in minutes of assistance provided per day by another person in the home, and (2) the subject's level of satisfaction with life in general.

The functional independence measure: Tests of scaling assumptions, structure, and reliability across 20 diverse impairment categories

TL;DR: The psychometric properties of the summated FIM compare favorably to most standardized health measures used in medical practice and provide support for the motor and cognitive subscales as used in the FIM-FRGs.

Effectiveness of assistive technology and environmental interventions in maintaining independence and reducing home care costs for the frail elderly. A randomized controlled trial.

TL;DR: Results indicate rate of decline can be slowed, and institutional and certain in-home personnel costs reduced through a systematic approach to providing AT and EIs.

Functional disability and rehabilitation outcome in right hemisphere damaged patients with and without unilateral spatial neglect.

TL;DR: The significance of neglect as a major source of stroke-related long-term disability justifies further research efforts to develop appropriate therapeutic modalities for this complex, multifactorial syndrome.

The Functional Independence Measure for Children (WeeFIM): Conceptual Basis and Pilot Use in Children With Developmental Disabilities

TL;DR: The pilot use of this instrument in children with limb deficiency, Down's syndrome, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, and extreme prematurity demonstrates that the WeeFIM is a valid measure for tracking disability in preschool age and middle childhood.

The Brief Symptom Inventory: an introductory report.

TL;DR: The BSI was developed from its longer parent instrument, the SCL-90-R, and psychometric evaluation reveals it to be an acceptable short alternative to the complete scale, and factor analytic studies of the internal structure of the scale contribute evidence of construct validity.
