Germination ecology of twelve indigenous and eight exotic multipurpose leguminous species from Ethiopia

TLDR
Results from the present study show that once the dormancy in leguminous species with hard seed coats is broken, the seeds germinate in wide ranges of temperature.

Ecology of seed and seedling growth for conservation and restoration of tropical dry forest : a review

TL;DR: The review points out the need for coordinated, long-term, field-based studies for identification of multiple cues and niches for germination, on seed and seedling dynamics in response to fire, and on within-species genetic variability for selection of suitable provenances.
Journal ArticleDOI

Some biological characteristics that foster the invasion of Prosopis juliflora (Sw.) DC. at Middle Awash Rift Valley Area, north-eastern Ethiopia

TL;DR: The results clearly demonstrated that Prosopis is equipped with a number of biological characteristics that foster its rapid invasion of new areas and is a powerful noxious invader as can be evidenced from its rampant invasion in the study site and elsewhere in the tropics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Soil seed flora, germination and regeneration pattern of woody species in an Acacia woodland of the Rift Valley in Ethiopia

TL;DR: Results from the germination tests indicated that seeds of the legumes require pre-sowing treatments to give a rapid, uniform and improved germination and intervention through artificial regeneration should be employed to improve the density and capacity of those species with hampered regeneration at both systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dynamics of sapling population in savanna woodlands of Burkina Faso subjected to grazing, early fire and selective tree cutting for a decade

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the effects of moderate level of grazing, early fire and selective tree cutting on the dynamics of sapling populations on two sites, Laba and Tiogo, in the savanna woodland of Burkina Faso and assessed for 10 years from 1992 to 2002.

Ethiopian Church Forests: Opportunities and Challenges for Restoration.

TL;DR: This study analyses forest community structure and composition of the church forests in Northern Ethiopia, investigates major bottlenecks for regeneration of woody species, and explores opportunities and challenges for restoration.

Ecology of Soil Seed Banks

TL;DR: In this article, the relationship of seed banks to vegetation dynamics and processes that influence inputs and losses from seed banks was examined. But the role and importance of seed bank in vegetable types were not discussed.

Seed Germination in Desert Plants

TL;DR: The reader is provided with an understanding of the complex influences acting upon each seed, traced from initial development to germination stage, regarding germination preparation and the subsequent survival.
