Health-related quality of life after cardiac surgery – the effects of age, preoperative conditions and postoperative complications

TLDR
Older patients with higher operative risk have lower preoperative HRQOL but show a similar improvement in a majority ofHRQOL domains after cardiac surgery as compared with younger patients.

Quality of life after coronary bypass: a multicentre study of routinely collected health data in the Netherlands

TL;DR: Most patients experience a relevant increase in physical and mental quality of life, but a proportion of patients aged ≥80 years undergo significant deterioration in mental health.

Quality of Life After Cardiac Operations Based on the Minimal Clinically Important Difference Concept

TL;DR: Although the study showed overall improvement of quality of life after cardiac operations, more than one-quarter of the patients manifested deterioration of HRQOL at 6 months postoperatively, which should help clinicians to inform patients about their likely postoperative functional status and quality oflife.

Association between self-perceived pain sensitivity and pain intensity after cardiac surgery

TL;DR: Use of the PSQ before surgery may predict cardiac surgical pain intensity, however, previous evidence is limited and not consistent, and more research is needed to substantiate the results.

Short Physical Performance Battery Can Be Utilized to Evaluate Physical Function in Patients After Cardiac Surgery

TL;DR: The MCID for SPPB is estimated to be between 0.44 and 1.35 points out of 12 for patients in the early postoperative period, meaning that the SPPB may be too easy as time from surgery increases and patients recover.

The impact of surgical aortic valve replacement on quality of life-a multicenter study.

TL;DR: Patients surviving surgical aortic valve replacement on average improve in physical and mental quality of life; nonetheless, with increasing age patients are at higher risk of experiencing a deterioration.

SF-36 health survey update.

Jr. John E. Ware
- 15 Dec 2000 -
TL;DR: The SF-36 (Medical Outcomes Trust, Boston, MA) is a multipurpose, short-form health survey with only 36 questions, which yields an eight-scale profile of scores as well as physical and mental health summary measures as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Health-related quality of life in parents of school-age children with Asperger Syndrome or High-Functioning Autism.

TL;DR: Mothers but not fathers of children with AS/HFA reported impaired HRQL, and there was a relationship between maternal well-being and child behaviour characteristics.

Prevalence and outcomes of anemia in geriatrics: a systematic review of the literature.

TL;DR: Future directions for research on anemia should include a more detailed examination of the importance of aging or age-related diseases on the pathogenesis of anemia, an assessment of the Importance of Anemia on outcomes such as physical function and cognitive function, and an analysis of whether impairments associated with anemia are amenable to correction by improving hemoglobin concentration.

Cardiac surgery in octogenarians; peri-operative outcome and long-term results.

TL;DR: Cardiac operations are successful in most octogenarians with increased hospital mortality, and longer hospital stay, and long-term survival and quality of life are good.
