Psychophysical aspects of retronasal chemosensory perception

Native chicken quality performances could be improved through high quality feed. Thus, their growth, body weight and egg production could be optimized. This research used 60 hens of 6 weeks old native chicken with functional feed which consist of : menhaden fish oil, N-3 isolate of Histamine Methyl Transferase enzyme producer, Lactobacillus and Bacillus sp. at 1:1. The treatment consisted of 4 groups i.e., R0 (control), R1 (the use of functional feed at 2.5%), R2 (the use of functional feed at 5.0%); R3 (the use of functional feed at 7.5%). These are arranged based on a Completely Randomized Design with 4 replications, each replications with 5 hens, respectively. The measured variables were blood profile (cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, HDL, erythrocyt, leucocyte, hematocrit and plasma protein) and performance (feed consumption, lipid consumption, energy consumption and carcass percentage). The results revealed that functional feed has increased very significantly (p 0.05) was observed on blood profile. A subsequent test was done with Honestly Significant Differences test to show that using functional feed up to 7.5% in fed could reduce lipid consumption, increased carcasses percentage but still produced relatively similar blood profile.

Blood Profile and Performance of Native Chicken with Functional Feed

Understanding how the biological environment contributes to drug release following administration is increasingly becoming a focus for drug delivery research. Achieving therapeutic levels of a bioactive relies on appropriate drug release following parenteral administration that must be complimentary to subsequent drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination. The biological characteristics of the injection site can have an influence on the drug absorption process. In this chapter the intravenous, intramuscular and subcutaneous routes for parenteral administration of extended release products will be discussed.

Anatomy and Physiology of the Injection Site: Implications for Extended Release Parenteral Systems

Cotecxin has been reportedly used in the treatment of malaria with high clinical effect and low toxicity. This study therefore, tried to examine the effects of cotecxin on the histology of the testis of wistar rats. A total of twenty four (24) male wistar rats were the subjects used in this experiment. The wistar rats were divided into three groups with each group containing eight (8) rats. Different concentrations of cotecxin were administered orally to the wistar rats which had an average weight of 150 g. Group I is the control group, Group II received 3.42 mg /kg and Group III were given 17.10 mg /Kg. The duration of administration was seven days. After which four (4) rats from each group were sacrificed on the eighth day. The remaining twelve rats were equally sacrificed on the 15 th day and immediately fixed in 10% formalin. The tissues were processed and stained in Haematoxylin and Eosin (H&E). The changes observed on the eighth day in the testis were disarray of the spermatogenic cells and disorientation of the testis. These changes were observed to have been disappearing and normal histological features being restored in those rats sacrificed at the 15 th day. It was therefore concluded that cotecxin has negative effect on the histology of the testis during administrations and these effects were reversible some days after stoppage of the administration. This suggests that cotexcin could be safe but It's prolong usage may be discouraged.
