TLDR
In this article, the critical sequence, defined as the set of activities which are connected by technology and/or resource sharing, is suggested as an alternative to the critical path, and an algorithm based on existing computer software is suggested for identifying a critical sequence.

On the merits and pitfalls of critical chain scheduling

TL;DR: It appears that the 50% rule for buffer sizing may lead to a serious overestimation of the required buffer protection, and regularly updating the baseline schedule and the critical chain provides the best intermediate estimates of the final project duration and yields the smallestfinal project duration.

Criticality in Resource Constrained Networks

TL;DR: A revised method of calculating resource constrained float is presented, together with a discussion of its use in project management, and a number of other measures of an activity's importance in a network are described and compared in an application to an aircraft development.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effectiveness of resource levelling tools for Resource Constraint Project Scheduling Problem

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluate the effectiveness of resource levelling tools of three popular packages by comparing the results when levelling two real construction projects as case studies, and compare the results with the results of three real construction project case studies.

Construction Delay Analysis Techniques—A Review of Application Issues and Improvement Needs

TL;DR: In this paper, an evaluation of the most common delay analysis techniques based on a case study, a review of the key relevant issues often not addressed by the techniques, and the necessary improvements needs is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Tying the pieces together: A normative framework for integrating sales and project operations

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a normative approach to unify the sales process with project operations capacity by coordinating movement of potential customers through the sales funnel with the company's internal project capacity.

A Comparison of Heuristic and Optimum Solutions in Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling

TL;DR: A comparison of eight different heuristic scheduling rules, including those found most effective in previous research on this problem, to find the rules most effective relative to an optimum solution.

A Comparison of Exact Approaches for Solving the Multiple Constrained Resource, Project Scheduling Problem

TL;DR: A recurring problem in managing project activity involves the allocation of scarce resources to the individual activities comprising the project Resource conflict resolution decisions must be made whenever the concurrent demand for resources by the competing activities of a project exceeds resource availability.

Project Scheduling under Resource Constraints—Historical Review and Categorization of Procedures

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a survey of the state of the art in project-type planning and scheduling models and present an attempt to categorize the existing procedures, define the state-of-the-art and indicate the directions of continued progress.

An Algorithm for Optimal Project Scheduling under Multiple Resource Constraints

TL;DR: An algorithm is described which permits the computation of optimal (minimum-duration) solutions for the resource-constrained project network scheduling problem under conditions of multiple resource requirements per job (activity).

Heuristics for Scheduling Resource-Constrained Projects: An Experimental Investigation

TL;DR: This paper considers the project scheduling problem with multiple constrained resources and shows that the choice of priority rule is important with the parallel method, but with the sampling method, although it does affect the distribution of the sample, the choices of rule are not significant.
