IF estimation of FM signals based on time-frequency image

TLDR
This paper proposes an IF estimation algorithm by exploiting the combination of TF distributions (TFDs) and image processing techniques, andumerical results are provided to demonstrate desirable capabilities of the proposed algorithm.
Abstract
This paper addresses the problem of estimating the instantaneous frequency (IF) of multicomponent radar signals, which are assumed to be frequency-modulated (FM). The difficulties lie in that different FM components which overlap in time-frequency (TF) domain have different time-supports, and their spectral contents may present continuous and stepped IF laws. We propose an IF estimation algorithm by exploiting the combination of TF distributions (TFDs) and image processing techniques. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate desirable capabilities of the proposed algorithm.

Separation of Overlapped Non-Stationary Signals by Ridge Path Regrouping and Intrinsic Chirp Component Decomposition

TL;DR: A novel non-parametric algorithm called ridge path regrouping (RPRG) is proposed to extract the instantaneous frequencies (IFs) of the overlapped components from a T-F representation (TFR).

Sparse Arrays and Sampling for Interference Mitigation and DOA Estimation in GNSS

TL;DR: It is shown that both jammer direction of arrival estimation methods and mitigation techniques benefit from the design flexibility of sparse arrays and their extended virtual apertures or coarrays, enabling its effective sensing and excision in antijam GNSS.

On refining polynomial phase signal parameter estimates

TL;DR: In this paper, an elegant and efficient alternative to a Newton gradient search type algorithm based on filtering and phase unwrapping has been proposed, which is shown to be computationally efficient and much less sensitive to the accuracy of the initial estimates for the parameters than a Newton algorithm.

Stochastic Relaxation, Gibbs Distributions, and the Bayesian Restoration of Images

TL;DR: The analogy between images and statistical mechanics systems is made and the analogous operation under the posterior distribution yields the maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimate of the image given the degraded observations, creating a highly parallel ``relaxation'' algorithm for MAP estimation.

Estimating and interpreting the instantaneous frequency of a signal. I. Fundamentals

TL;DR: The concept of instantaneous frequency (IF), its definitions, and the correspondence between the various mathematical models formulated for representation of IF are discussed in this paper, and the extent to which the IF corresponds to the intuitive expectation of reality is also considered.

Very fast simulated re-annealing

TL;DR: An algorithm is developed to statistically find the best global fit of a nonlinear nonconvex cost-function over a D-dimensional space and it is argued that this algorithm permits an annealing schedule for ''temperature'' T decreasing exponentially in annealed-time k, T = T"0exp(-ck^1^/^D).
