Impact of hydrology on the Port-Harcourt-Patani-Warri road

TLDR
In this article, the authors explored the impact of hydrology on the Port-Harcourt-Patani-Warri road and attributed the poor performance of the road to: 1) the southeast-northwest orientation, in which the road acts like a dam; 2) inferior construction aggregate composition; 3) changes in pavement condition due to interaction of local road aggregates with water.
Abstract
The paper explores the impact of hydrology on the Port-Harcourt–Patani-Warri Road. It reviews the hydrometeorological, drainage and terrain peculiarities of the area against the backdrop of the design, alignment and performance of the road. The paper ascribes the poor performance of the road to: 1.  The southeast-northwest orientation of the road in a region with predominately northeast-southwest surface and subsurface flow, in which the road acts like a dam; 2. The inferior construction aggregate composition; 3. Changes in pavement condition due to interaction of local road aggregates with water.

Unjust waters: climate change, flooding and the urban poor in Africa

TL;DR: ActionAid conducted participatory vulnerability analysis in five African cities to explore local people's perceptions of why floods occur, how they adjust to them, who is responsible for reducing the flood risk and what action the community itself can take as discussed by the authors.

Late Quaternary Niger Delta, and Adjacent Areas: Sedimentary Environments and Lithofacies

TL;DR: The Late Quaternary Niger delta as mentioned in this paper is a large, arcuate "classical" delta associated with marginal estuary and barrier island-lagoon complexes, where sediment originating in a vast and geologically complex hinterland is dispersed through the delta by river, tidal, wave, and ocean currents.
