Abstract
The past decade has seen the emergence of computer networks as an indispensable tool in interpersonal and intersystem communications. As more and more people have begun to use networks the size of the networks and their users have also increased greatly. As networks grow bigger and bigger, the volume of information to be remembered by users and applications increase. This gives rise to the need for a common repository of information which can be accessed through the network.Such a common repository of information can be realized by means of the Directory. The Directory is an application that holds and provides access to information about objects in the real world. An object is anything that can be named, ranging from humans to application processes, and devices. The Directory will provide user-friendly names for objects. It will be typically used to facilitate communication between objects such as application entities, people, etc. Realizing the importance of the Directory, a detailed study on the various...
