TLDR
The evidence on model-based testing (MBT) was looked at to extract some useful knowledge and also discuss some issues that are relevant to other software technologies with similar types of evidence.Abstract:
A rich body of experiences hasn't yet been published on all the software development techniques researchers have proposed. In fact, by some estimates, the techniques for which we do have substantial experience are few and far between. When we started looking at the evidence on model-based testing (MBT), we thought we'd come across some strong studies that showed this approach's capabilities compared to conventional testing techniques-this wasn't the case. However, we can still extract some useful knowledge and also discuss some issues that are relevant to other software technologies with similar types of evidence.read more

Systematic literature reviews in software engineering - A tertiary study
Barbara Kitchenham,Rialette Pretorius,David Budgen,O. Pearl Brereton,Mark Turner,Mahmood Niazi,Stephen Linkman +6 more
TL;DR: SLRs appear to have gone past the stage of being used solely by innovators but cannot yet be considered a main stream software engineering research methodology, such as often failing to assess primary study quality.

A taxonomy of model-based testing approaches
TL;DR: The process of model‐based testing is discussed and a taxonomy that covers the key aspects of MBT approaches is defined to help with understanding the characteristics, similarities and differences of those approaches, and with classifying the approach used in a particular MBT tool.

Using mapping studies as the basis for further research - A participant-observer case study
TL;DR: Mapping studies can save time and effort for researchers and provide baselines to assist new research efforts, however, they must be of high quality in terms of completeness and rigour if they are to be a reliable basis for follow-on research.

Definitions and approaches to model quality in model-based software development - A review of literature
TL;DR: A systematic review of studies discussing model quality published since 2000 identifies what model quality means and how it can be improved and presents six practices proposed for developing high-quality models together with examples of empirical evidence.

An empirical methodology for introducing software processes
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an empirical methodology based on experiences garnered over more than two decades of work by the Empirical Software Engineering Group at the University of Maryland and related organizations, for taking a newly proposed improvement to development processes from the conceptual phase through transfer to industry.
