TLDR
A recently proposed technique combines the traditional indentation test with the mapping of residual deformations (imprint), thus providing experimental data which are used to identify isotropic and anisotropic material parameters in more accurate fashion and in larger number.

TL;DR: In this article, the von Mises flow rule is used to predict the effect of residual stress on the contact pressure with and without residual stresses on the volume of interest measured during indentation experiments.

Proper Orthogonal Decomposition and Radial Basis Functions in material characterization based on instrumented indentation

TL;DR: In this paper, the Trust Region Algorithm (TRA) is used for parameter identification in a non-destructive test of a structural material, based on an isotropic elastic-plastic model.

A constitutive model of metal–ceramic functionally graded material behavior: Formulation and parameter identification

TL;DR: In this article, an alternative elastic-plastic model is considered, accounting for a volume-fraction-governed transition from Hencky-Huber-Mises (J2 flow) model, typical of the purely metallic phase, toward a Drucker-Prager constitutive law more suitable to describe the mechanical behavior of ceramics.

Identification of the material properties of Al 2024 alloy by means of inverse analysis and indentation tests

TL;DR: In this article, an inverse analysis approach aimed at the identification of the mechanical properties of metallic materials based on the experimental results obtained from indentation tests is presented, which consists of the maximum pile-up height measured after the indentation test.

Identification of elastic-plastic properties of metal materials by using the residual imprint of spherical indentation

TL;DR: In this article, a novel inverse computation method is proposed to estimate the elastic-plastic properties of metal materials by using only the residual imprint of spherical indentation, which does not need to know the entire loading history.

An Interior Trust Region Approach for Nonlinear Minimization Subject to Bounds

TL;DR: In this paper, a trust region approach for minimizing nonlinear functions subject to simple bounds is proposed, where the trust region is defined by minimizing a quadratic function subject only to an ellipsoidal constraint and the iterates generated by these methods are always strictly feasible.

Computational modeling of the forward and reverse problems in instrumented sharp indentation

TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive computational study was undertaken to identify the extent to which elasto-plastic properties of ductile materials could be determined from instrumented sharp indentation and to quantify the sensitivity of such extracted properties to variations in the measured indentation data.

A new method for estimating residual stresses by instrumented sharp indentation

TL;DR: In this article, a general methodology is proposed for the determination of surface residual stresses and residual plastic strains using instrumented sharp indentation, which is assumed to be equibiaxial and uniform over a depth (beneath the indented surface) which is at least several times larger than the indentation contact diameter, and the indenter load and geometry can be so chosen as to minimize or maximize the contact radius to seek the broadest range of applicability and validity of the proposed method by recourse to macro-, micro- and nanoindentation of elastoplastic
