Se presentan como extensiones del calculo proposicional clasico, la jerarquia de sistemas deductivos SMM�n con n >= 1. SMM�n es el sistema multi�modal de profundidad�n. El sistema SMM�1 es el calculo proposicional clasico. El sistema SMM�(n + 1) puede ser visto como el resultado de aplicar la regla de necesariedad, asociada a los razonadores con suficiente capacidad de razonamiento, una vez a los teoremas del sistema SMM�n. El sistema SMM resulta de la reunion de los sistemas de la jerarquia, y puede ser visto como el sistema de logica multi�modal Km con restricciones. Los sistemas SMM�n son caracterizados con una semantica al estilo Kripke, en la cual, la longitud de las cadenas de mundos posibles se encuentra restringida.

Sistemas multi–modales de profundidad restringida

This paper attempts to systematize natural language analysis process by (1) use of a partitioned semantic network formalism as the meaning representation and (2) stepwise translation based on Montague Grammar. The meaning representation is obtained in two steps. The first step translates natural language into logical expression. The second step interprets logical expression to generate network structure. We have implemented set of programs which performs the stepwise translation. Experiments are in progress for machine translation and question answering.

Hierarchical meaning representation and analysis of natural language documents

I consider speech act theory to be an extension of the theory of meaning in natural language. Whereas up to now the theory of meaning has almost exclusively been concerned with the meaning of strictly declarative sentences, the aim of speech act theory is to characterize the meaning of non-declarative sentences as well as declarative ones in terms of possible speech acts. As the theory of meaning includes a semantical and a pragmatical part, speech act theory deals with both aspects as well. The difference of the two aspects I consider to be as follows: semantics is concerned with the meaning of sentences in abstraction from context, pragmatics is concerned with the meaning of sentences in contexts. There is no reason to identify speech act theory in general with pragmatics of natural language, since there are kinds of speech acts that can be treated within a proper extended semantics. On the other hand, however, there are also other kinds of speech acts that must be treated by reference to special features of context, i.e. in a pragmatical way.

On Problems of Speech Act Theory

In two early papers, Max Cresswell constructed two formal logics of propositional identity, PCR and FCR, which he observed to be respectively deductively equivalent to modal logics S4 and S5. Cresswell argued informally that these equivalences respectively “give … evidence” for the correctness of S4 and S5 as logics of broadly logical necessity. In this paper, I describe weaker propositional identity logics than PCR that accommodate core intuitions about identity and I argue that Cresswell’s informal arguments do not firmly and without epistemic circularity justify accepting S4 or S5. I also describe how to formulate standard modal logics (K, S2, and their extensions) with strict equivalence as the only modal primitive.
