TLDR
In this article, the principles of sample selection for the national biobank-depository of the living systems are described on the basis of petro- and paleomagnetic methods for the investigation of biomineralization.
Abstract
Magnetotactic bacteria that produce nanosized crystals of magnetite or greigite (or both minerals) inside cells in the processes of life play an important role in the biogeochemical processes, for example, in the iron and sulfur cycle, as well as in natural residual magnetization of sedimentary rocks. Despite decades of investigation, knowledge of their abundance and ecology is still limited. The principles of sample selection for the national biobank–depository of the living systems are described on the basis of petro- and paleomagnetic methods for the investigation of biomineralization.

Biogenic nanomagnetite in the Lebedinskii deposit: Evidence of biochemical processes in the origin of banded iron formation of KMA

TL;DR: For the first time, biogenic nanomagnetite has been detected in banded iron formation of the Lebedinskii deposit of the KMA and has been demonstrated to be a primary mineral as mentioned in this paper.

The identification and biogeochemical interpretation of fossil magnetotactic bacteria

TL;DR: The magnetofossil record extends robustly to the Cretaceous and with lesser certainty to the late Archean, and the magnetotactic bacteria are recognized based on their narrow size and shape distributions, distinctive morphologies with blunt crystal edges, chain arrangement, chemical purity and crystallographic perfection as discussed by the authors.

The mineral magnetic properties of an annually laminated Holocene lake-sediment sequence in northern Sweden

TL;DR: In this article, detailed mineral magnetic measurements were conducted on a 9000-year varved lake sediment sequence in northern Sweden (Lake Sarsjon) and the results demonstrate that the paramagnetic susceptibility reflects the concentration of detrital minerogenic material in the lake sediments, which is controlled to a large extent by the intensity of the spring snow melt.
