TLDR
In this article, the hydraulic radius model was applied to laminar flow in a packed bed and assuming that mass transfer in the packed bed is analogous to that between a pipe surface and a stream of liquid with steady velocity profile, liquid-phase mass transfer from the packed solid sphere was analyzed and an approximate solution was proposed.
Abstract
Applying the hydraulic radius model to laminar flow in a packed bed and assuming that mass transfer in the packed bed is analogous to that between a pipe surface and a stream of liquid with steady laminar velocity profile, liquid-phase mass transfer from the packed solid sphere was analyzed and an approximate solution is proposed. Further liquidfilm mass transfer coefficients were measured for benzoic acid-water system. From these results, together with previous data, it was found that the proposed equation agrees with data in Re'^10, both this equation and Carberrys equation can be applied for ]0<CRef <1OO, and Carberry's equation fits in Re'>100.

Investigations on the column performance of fluoride adsorption by activated alumina in a fixed-bed

TL;DR: In this article, the removal of fluoride ions using activated alumina (AA) was investigated in batch and continuous operations, and the fluoride removal performance was investigated as a function of the fluoride concentration, flow rate, amount of adsorbent dose and pH.

Mass transfer kinetics, band broadening and column efficiency.

TL;DR: This work underlines the areas in which improvements are needed, an understanding of the contribution of the external film mass transfer term, a better design of HPLC instruments providing a decrease of the extra-column band broadening contributions to the apparent HETP, and the development of better packing procedures giving more radially homogeneous column beds.
