Abstract
In this paper, the author discusses a living mobile 3D city. It was created by lightweight modeling and 3D optimizations, and implemented an efficient, scalable dynamic entity management solution. A mobile 3D navigation interface was designed and verified the system by field experiments. Based on the results, implications for future research are also discussed.

A mobile 3D-GIS hybrid recommender system for tourism

TL;DR: This paper presents a novel mobile recommender system that brings together a hybrid recommendation engine and a mobile 3D GIS architecture that allows tourists to benefit from innovative features such as a 3D map-based interface and real-time location-sensitive recommendations.

Method and apparatus for presenting a first-person world view of content

TL;DR: In this article, an approach for presenting a global view of content is presented for a content mapping platform that receives an access address of content, the content including location information, and determines availability information of the content by causing, at least in part, detection of content at the access address and presenting of content on a user interface of a user device indicating the location information based on the availability information.

Generating a Three-Dimensional Model Using a Portable Electronic Device Recording

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a system for navigating a 3D model using deterministic movement of an electronic device (e.g., by walking with the device in the user's real environment).

Level of detail in 3D city models

TL;DR: This research demonstrates that it is possible to generate 3D city models without elevation measurements, inherently augmenting the LOD of coarser data (2D footprints), and proposes a new LOD specification that may be integrated in product portfolios and tenders as a better language for communicating the specifics of a dataset to be acquired.

Towards image realism with interactive update rates in complex virtual building environments

TL;DR: In this paper, two strategies, pre-computation before display and adaptive refinement during display, are used to combine interactivity with high image quality in a virtual building simulation, where the hidden-surface problem is partially solved by automatically precomputing potentially visible sets of the model for sets of related viewpoints.

RING: a client-server system for multi-user virtual environments

TL;DR: The client-server design, implementation and experimental results for a system that supports real-time visual interaction between a large number of users in a shared 3D virtual environment with a 40x decrease in the number of messages processed by client workstations are described.
