Mobile spatial audio communication system
TLDR
The experimental platform demonstrated that COTS GPS units can be used for a real-time GPS-based spatial audio communication system, but with some limitations.Abstract:
As a first step in studying the application of the global positioning system (GPS) in a spatial audio communication system, an experimental platform was developed using commercial, off-the-shelf (COTS) GPS units: a Garmin Rino 120 (Rino) and a laptop. Software running on the laptop was developed to create a spatial-audio communication system based on GPS data and the two-way radio link on the Rino units. The audio communications were rendered spatially on headsets and perceptually tested for a number of users. The perceptual results and implementation issues are discussed in this paper. The experimental platform demonstrated that COTS GPS units can be used for a real-time GPS-based spatial audio communication system, but with some limitations.read more

Method and apparatus for creating a multi-dimensional communication space for use in a binaural audio system
TL;DR: In this article, a binaural sound system (400) includes a transceiver (492) configured for receiving a signal (600) containing at least a first type of information (e.g., enunciated data) and a second type of metadata (i.e., spatial position information).

Experiments in mobile spatial audio-conferencing: key-based and gesture-based interaction
TL;DR: While the traditional keypad interaction proved to be more straightforward to use, there was no significant impact on task completion times or number of interaction movements made between the techniques.

Enabling technologies for audio augmented reality systems
TL;DR: Results indicate that users are able to detect a sound sample among distractors and estimate sample numerosity accurately with both speech and non-speech audio, if the samples are presented with adequate temporal separation.

Auditory spatial resolution in horizontal, vertical, and diagonal planes.
TL;DR: Measurements of the stimuli recorded through KEMAR indicated that sources presented from diagonal planes can produce larger interaural level differences (ILDs) in certain frequency regions than would be expected based on the horizontal projection of the trajectory.
