Abstract
A laser doppler velocimeter uses frequency shifting of a laser beam to provide signal information for each velocity component. A composite electrical signal generated by a light detector is digitized and a processor produces a discrete Fourier transform based on the digitized electrical signal. The transform includes two peak frequencies corresponding to the two velocity components.

Laser doppler velocimeter

TL;DR: In this article, a laser Doppler velocimeter is formed using a fiber laser as the lasing medium, and all optical signals, transmitted and received, are conveyed by optical fibers.

Apparatus and method for measuring strain in bragg gratings

TL;DR: In this article, an apparatus and method for measuring strain of gratings written into an optical fiber is presented. Butts et al. measured the strain on the grating at each wavelength of optical radiation by determining the difference between the current wavelength and an earlier, zero-strain wavelength measurement.

Apparatus and methods for correcting for variable velocity in microfluidic systems

TL;DR: In this article, a computer for correcting for electrokinetic effects in microfluidic devices is presented, which can have substrates with channels, depressions, and/or wells for moving, mixing and monitoring precise amounts of analyte fluids.

Method and system for measuring optical scattering characteristics

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and system for measuring optical scattering characteristics including coupling a continuous wave laser excitation signal to an optical fiber was proposed, where backscattered radiation signals were mixed with the excitation signals to produce a mixed signal.

Laser Wind Velocimeter With Multiple Radiation Sources

TL;DR: In this paper, a system and method for measuring wind velocities with a radiation source includes a fiber laser, which is then transmitted to one or more transceivers, each projecting along a different axis and each with a single optical fiber input/output interface.

- 01 Nov 1973 -
TL;DR: A newly developed laser Doppler velocimeter is described, which simplifies the optics usually required for the more conventional velocimeters, allows measurement of two-vector components of velocity, requires no adjustment of alignment mirrors, and enables both velocity component signals to be detected with a single detector.

Three dimensional laser Doppler velocimeter

TL;DR: In this paper, a laser Doppler velocimeter is used to measure fluid flow in three dimensions, employing a laser beam projected through rotating diffraction grating and spaced lenses, with a beam splitter in the major optical path between two lenses ahead of the flow channel through which the fluid passes.

Fiber optic doppler anemometer

TL;DR: In this article, a fiber optic doppler anemometer consisting of a source of coherent light, a directional coupler formed by the combination of a pair of singlemode optical fibers, and a photoelectric transducer is presented.
