TLDR
In this article, the authors demonstrated the first post-ionization of neutral atoms sputtered from ion bombarded solids by multiphoton resonance ionization, which has been applied in the characterization of the chemistry and structure of solid surfaces and in the trace analysis of a wide variety of materials.

Application of molecular dynamics simulations to the study of ion-bombarded metal surfaces

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a status report on the present understanding of the physics of atom ejection by ion bombardment and indicate the contributions of molecular dynamics simulations to this research area.

Experimental studies on cluster ions

TL;DR: Cluster ions are a nonrigid assembly of components having properties between those of large gas phase molecules and the bulk condensed state as discussed by the authors, and they are used for fuel injection into fusion reactors and cluster ions are also present in other high-temperature systems such as those designed as sources of energy employing magnets and hydrodynamics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Solids analysis using energetic ion bombardment and multiphoton resonance ionization with time-of-flight detection

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the origln of these factors and their Influence on the use of MPRI of sputtered neutrals as a tool for the elemental analysls of solids.

II. The energy spectrum of ejected atoms during the high energy sputtering of gold

TL;DR: In this paper, the energy spectrum of sputtered atoms has been determined for several gold specimens, both single crystals and polycrystalline aggregates, using the technique described in part I. The energies of the ejected atoms ranged from some 10−2 ev up to about 104 ev.

Resonance ionization spectroscopy and one-atom detection

TL;DR: In this paper, the RIS process can be saturated with available pulsed lasers, so that one electron can be removed from each atom of the selected type, and a compact theory of RIS process is presented which delineates the conditions under which rate equations apply.
Journal ArticleDOI

The sputtering process and sputtered ion emission

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the physical characteristics of sputtered ion emission is presented, focusing on the grossly disordered nature of the sputtering site as the sputtered atoms depart.

Angular distributions of ejected particles from ion-bombarded clean and reacted single-crystal surfaces

TL;DR: In this paper, the expected angular distributions of ejected particles from ion-bombarded clean and reacted single-crystal surfaces are calculated using classical dynamics to model the momentum dissipation.
