TLDR
Results indicate that soccer players with an increased tightness of the hamstring or quadriceps muscles have a statistically higher risk for a subsequent musculoskeletal lesion.Abstract:
Background: Muscular tightness is frequently postulated as an intrinsic risk factor for the development of a muscle injury. However, very little prospective data exist to prove this.Hypothesis: Increased muscle tightness identifies a soccer player at risk for a subsequent musculoskeletal lesion.Study Design: Prospective cohort study. Methods: We examined 146 male professional soccer players before the 1999—2000 Belgian soccer competition. None of the players had a history of muscle injury in the lower extremities in the previous 2 years. The flexibility of the hamstring, quadriceps, adductor, and calf muscles of these players was measured goniometrically before the start of the season. All of the examined players were monitored throughout the season to register subsequent injuries. Results: Players with a hamstring (N = 31) or quadriceps (N = 13) muscle injury were found to have significantly lower flexibility in these muscles before their injury compared with the uninjured group. No significant differences...read more

The reliability and minimal detectable change of the ely and active knee extension tests.
Ovidio Olivencia,Gina M Godinez,Justin Dages,Courtney Duda,Kelby Kaplan,Morey J. Kolber,Kaplan,Kolber +7 more
TL;DR: The Ely and AKE tests have good to excellent inter-rater and intra- rater reliability for measuring rectus femoris and hamstring muscle length when stabilization of the pelvis and hip is accounted for and the MDC should be considered as a threshold for true change in the asymptomatic adult population.

Localised application of vibration improves passive knee extension in women with apparent reduced hamstring extensibility: a randomised trial.
TL;DR: An 8-week regimen of localised application of vibration over the hamstring muscles significantly reduces knee extension lack in women with reduced range on the passive knee extension test.

A Study on Impact of Receiving Training on Football and Sprinting on Body Composition and Physical Fitness Status of Adolescent Males
Neepa Banerjee,Sandipan Chatterjee,Surjani Chaterjee,Ayan Chatterjee,Satabdi Bhattacharjee,Tanaya Santra,Bijan Saha,Shankarashis Mukherjee,Indranil Manna +8 more
TL;DR: It has been observed that male adolescent individuals receiving similar pattern of training in football and sprinting did not vary significantly in terms of body composition but those being trained in football having better fitness status, compared to their sprinter counterparts.

Incidence, Severity, Aetiology and Prevention of Sports Injuries A Review of Concepts
TL;DR: The extent of the sports injury problem is often described by injury incidence and by indicators of the severity of sports injuries, and the importance of the determinants of sports behaviour, as well as the interaction between the various aetiological factors, is discussed.

TL;DR: It is suggested that those with knee instability and those allowed to resume play with poorly rehabilitated or clinically unhealed injuries are more apt to sustain further injury.
