Geometric singularities and enhanced gauge symmetries

TL;DR: In this article, Tate's algorithm was used to identify loci in the moduli of F-theory compactifications corresponding to enhanced gauge symmetry and to test the proposed Ftheory/heterotic dualities in six dimensions.

Five-dimensional supersymmetric gauge theories and degenerations of Calabi-Yau spaces

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss necessary conditions for existence of non-trivial renormalization group fixed points and find all possible gauge groups and matter content which satisfy them, and explore connections between aspects of the gauge theory and Calabi-Yau geometry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Extremal transitions and five-dimensional supersymmetric field theories

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors study five-dimensional supersymmetric field theories with one-dimensional Coulomb branch and find two new theories: E1 with U(1) symmetry and E0 with no symmetry, the latter is a non-trivial theory with no relevant operators preserving the super-Poincare symmetry.

Five-Dimensional Supersymmetric Gauge Theories and Degenerations of Calabi-Yau Spaces

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss necessary conditions for the existence of nontrivial renormalization group fixed points and find all possible gauge groups and matter content that satisfy them, and explore connections between aspects of the gauge theory and Calabi-Yau geometry.

Mirror symmetry in three-dimensional gauge theories, quivers and D-branes

TL;DR: In this paper, a dual N = 4 supersymmetric gauge theories with unitary and symplectic gauge groups were constructed and analyzed in three dimensions, and an explicit mirror map between the mass parameters and the Fayet-Iliopoulos parameters of the dual was constructed.

Electric - magnetic duality, monopole condensation, and confinement in N=2 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the vacuum structure and spectrum of N = 2 supersymmetric gauge theory in four dimensions, with gauge group SU(2), and obtained exact formulas for electron and dyon masses and the metric on the moduli space of vacua.

String theory dynamics in various dimensions

TL;DR: The strong coupling dynamics of string theories in dimension d ⩾ 4 are studied in this paper, where it is argued that eleven-dimensional supergravity arises as a low energy limit of the ten-dimensional Type IIA superstring.

Monopole Condensation, And Confinement In N=2 Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory

TL;DR: In this paper, the vacuum structure and dyon spectrum of N = 2 supersymmetric gauge theory in four dimensions, with gauge group SU(2), were studied. And the theory turns out to have remarkably rich and physical properties which can nonetheless be described precisely; exact formulas can be obtained, for instance, for electron and Dyon masses and the metric on the moduli space of vacua.
Journal ArticleDOI

Unity of superstring dualities

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the effective action for type II string theory compactified on a six-torus is N = 8 supergravity, which is known to have an E7 duality symmetry.

Dual polyhedra and mirror symmetry for Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in toric varieties

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that there exists an isomorphism between two conformal field theories corresponding to Calabi-Yau varieties from two families of algebraic compactifications of affine hypersurfaces.
