TLDR
In a phylogenetic study of the genera Pythium and Phytophthora, isolates with unique ITS sequences are found, different enough from those of any described species to justify new species status.Abstract:
In a phylogenetic study of the genera Pythium and Phytophthora we found isolates with unique ITS sequences, different enough from those of any described species to justify new species status. This paper describes and illustrates the morphology of two new species of Pythium and one new species of Phytophthora. Their taxonomic position and relationships with other related species in the same genus are presented and discussed.read more

A multi-locus phylogeny for Phytophthora utilizing markers derived from complete genome sequences.
TL;DR: A genus-wide phylogeny for 82 Phytophthora species is presented using seven of the most informative loci (approximately 8700 nucleotide sites) and support the division of the genus into 10 well-supported clades.
Journal ArticleDOI
The genus Phytophthora anno 2012.
TL;DR: An overview of the 10 clades that are currently distinguished within the genus Phytophthora with special emphasis on new species that have been described since 1996 when Erwin and Ribeiro published the valuable monograph 'Phytophile diseases worldwide' (35).
Journal ArticleDOI
An overview of the taxonomy, phylogeny, and typification of nectriaceous fungi in Cosmospora, Acremonium, Fusarium, Stilbella, and Volutella
TL;DR: The combined phylogenetic analysis shows that the present concept of Fusarium is not monophyletic and that the genus divides into two large groups, one basal in the family, the other terminal, separated by a large group of species classified in genera such as Calonectria, NeonECTria, and Volutella.
Journal ArticleDOI
Re-evaluation of Phytophthora citricola isolates from multiple woody hosts in Europe and North America reveals a new species, Phytophthora plurivora sp. nov.

TL;DR: DNA sequence data from the internal transcribed spacer regions, the mitochondrial cox1 and β-tubulin genes were used in combination with morphological and physiological characteristics to characterise these isolates and compare them to the ex-type and the authentic type isolates of P. citricola.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phylogeny of the genus Pythium and description of new genera
TL;DR: The phylogenetic trees show that the genus Pythium is a highly divergent group and divided into five well- or moderately supported monophyletic clades, characterized by sporangial morphology such as globose, ovoid, elongated, or filamentous shapes.

A simple and efficient protocol for isolation of high molecular weight DNA from filamentous fungi, fruit bodies, and infected plant tissues
TL;DR: DNAs were isolated from a wide variety of fungi including Fusarium, Pseudocercosporella, Phytophthora, Setosphaeria, Armillaria, Heterobasidion, Boletus, Russula, Lactarius, Suillus, Cortinarius, and from conifer roots and needles and subjected to Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis to verify their high molecular weight.
Journal ArticleDOI
A molecular phylogeny of Phytophthora and related oomycetes.
TL;DR: This article examined the phylogenetic relationships among 50 Phytophthora species and between them and other oomycetes on the basis of the ITS sequences of genomic rDNA and found that they were essentially monophyletic, all but three species forming a cluster of eight clades.
