TLDR
In this paper, the first bulk oxycarbide glasses were synthesized for the first time by adding SiC to magnesium aluminosilicate glass forming melts, and significant improvements in the glass transition temperature, microhardness, and refractoriness were achieved.

Synthesis and Characterization of Silicon Oxycarbide Glasses

TL;DR: In this paper, it has been found that X-ray amorphous silica glasses containing up to 18% carbon can be synthesized using a sol/gel process using four different organometallic precursors (methyl, ethyl, propyl-, and phenyltrimethoxysilanes).
Journal ArticleDOI

Oxycarbide Glasses in the Mg-Al-Si-O-C System

TL;DR: In this paper, the Mg-Al-Si-O-C system was used to produce oxycarbide glasses with carbon levels of 0.0, 0.5, 1.5 wt.
Journal ArticleDOI

Silicon oxycarbides via sol-gel route: characterization of the pyrolysis process

TL;DR: In this paper, modified silicon alkoxides, R x Si(OR') 4−x, appear as very promising precursors to introduce Si C bonds inside a silica gel network and thus to obtain silicon oxycarbide glasses after pyrolysis under inert atmosphere.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structural properties of multi-component silicon oxycarbide glasses derived from metal alkoxide precursors

TL;DR: In this article, the boron component of the borosilicon oxycarbide glass system exhibited predominantly BO3 coordination, while the Al component exhibited combinations of tetrahedral, pentacoordinated and octahedral coordination over a range of pyrolysis temperatures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Composition and thermal stability of SiO2-BASED hybrid materials TEOS-MTEOS system

TL;DR: In this paper, the thermal stability of hybrid materials with different amounts of organics permanently bound on the inorganic network obtained in the TEOS-MTEOS (tetraethoxysilan-methyltriethoxideysilan) system are used for obtaining coatings with different optical and mechanical properties.

Preparation and properties of oxynitride glasses

TL;DR: In this article, the possibility of redox reaction between a given oxide and nitride can be predicted by comparing ΔG° for the oxide with ΔG ≥ for oxidation of the nitride.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oxynitride glasses and glass-ceramics

TL;DR: The glass forming regions in several oxynitride systems were investigated in this paper, and it was shown that up to one out of seven oxygen atoms could be replaced by nitrogen in a silicate glass.
Journal ArticleDOI

Preparation and Mechanical Properties of Mg‐Al‐Si‐O‐N Glasses

TL;DR: In this paper, a three-component glass system was nitrided by adding amorphous and crystalline Si3N4, and their mechanical properties were measured, including density, hardness, Young's elastic modulus, and fracture toughness.

Melt Processing and Properties of Barium‐Sialon Glasses

TL;DR: In this article, bulk oxynitride glasses in the system Ba-Sialon were prepared by cooling homogenized melts from ∼1740°C at ∼50°C/min.
