Experiments on a stereo speech database contaminated with noise show that the PARAT microphone compares favourably with a high-quality noise-cancelling close-talking microphone.
Abstract
This paper presents recognition results for a novel microphone solution for ASR in adverse acoustic environments. PARAT is an intelligent hearing protector and communication terminal implemented as a lightweight earplug. The inner microphone in PARAT captures the speech signal behind a seal in the auditory canal, thus impeding contamination from external noise sources. Experiments on a stereo speech database contaminated with noise show that the PARAT microphone compares favourably with a high-quality noise-cancelling close-talking microphone.

Method and apparatus for multi-sensory speech enhancement

TL;DR: In this paper, a method and system using an alternative sensor signal received from a sensor other than an air conduction microphone to estimate a clean speech value is presented, which uses either the alternative sensor signals alone, or in conjunction with the air-conduction microphone signal.

Leakage model and teeth clack removal for air- and bone-conductive integrated microphones

TL;DR: A refined version of the direct filtering algorithm that takes into account explicitly the leakage of background noise into the bone channel and a new algorithm that detects and removes an artifact known as teeth clacks is presented.

Maximum likelihood linear regression for speaker adaptation of continuous density hidden Markov models

TL;DR: An important feature of the method is that arbitrary adaptation data can be used—no special enrolment sentences are needed and that as more data is used the adaptation performance improves.

Assessment for automatic speech recognition II: NOISEX-92: a database and an experiment to study the effect of additive noise on speech recognition systems

TL;DR: NoISEX-92 specifies a carefully controlled experiment on artificially noisy speech data, examining performance for a limited digit recognition task but with a relatively wide range of noises and signal-to-noise ratios.

Speech recognition in noisy environments: a survey

TL;DR: The survey indicates that the essential points in noisy speech recognition consist of incorporating time and frequency correlations, giving more importance to high SNR portions of speech in decision making, exploiting task-specific a priori knowledge both of speech and of noise, using class-dependent processing, and including auditory models in speech processing.

Active noise control systems

TL;DR: In this article, the fundamental conditions required for cancellation are derived in terms of the power spectral densities of the primary and secondary waves, which are in turn related to the geometry-related and source-related parameters of the system.
