Abstract
The innervation of the adrenal cortex of the rat and the pig is investigated with the electron microscope. Nerve fibers containing synaptic and two types of dense-cored vesicles come into contact with endocrine cells. There are no specialized pre- and postsynaptic membranes. The synaptic cleft is about 200 A wide. Generally the basement membrane between nerve and cell is absent. These observations are discussed on the base of more recent experimental findings. Small fibers having an average diameter of about 0.2 to 0.5 μ and containing only tubules and filaments are considered to represent parts of an afferent nervous system.

Physiology and Pathophysiology of Purinergic Neurotransmission

TL;DR: This review is focused on purinergic neurotransmission, i.e., ATP released from nerves as a transmitter or cotransmitter to act as an extracellular signaling molecule on both pre- and postjunctional membranes at neuroeffector junctions and synapses, as well as acting as a trophic factor during development and regeneration.

The distribution of vasoactive intestinal peptide in the rat adrenal cortex and medulla

TL;DR: The distribution of VIP suggests an important role for this peptide in both adrenal cortical and medullary function and a possible Medullary modulation of adrenal cortex function.

Studies of the fine structure of ovarian interstitial tissue. 4. Effects of steroids on the thecal gland of the domestic fowl.

TL;DR: The fine structure of ovarian steroid-producing cells of the domestic fowl as seen after administration of steroids is described in this article, which substantiates the view that the thecal gland must be concerned with endocrine function.

TL;DR: Evidence has been presented that there is a membranous neuro-humoral contact between the peripheral autonomie nervous system and the steroid-producing cells in the ovary.
