The experimental results of a demultiplexer using a diffraction grating for a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system, which transmits signals with different wavelengths by means of a single optical fiber, are described.Abstract:
A wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technique, which transmits signals with different wavelengths by means of a single optical fiber, can increase the capacity of optical fiber transmission systems. This paper describes the experimental results of a demultiplexer using a diffraction grating for a WDM system. The insertion loss of the demultiplexer could be decreased by using a large core output fiber, an Au-coated diffraction grating, and small aberration lenses. There were five channels in the 0.8-μm wavelength region. Wavelength spacing was 200 A. Insertion loss for each channel was about 2 dB, and cross talk was <−30 dB.read more

Integrated bi-directional axial gradient refractive index/diffraction grating wavelength division multiplexer
TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a wavelength division multiplexer that integrates an axial gradient refractive index element with a diffraction grating to provide coupling from a plurality of input optical sources (each delivering a single wavelength) which are multiplexed to a single polychromatic beam for output to an output optical receiver.

High channel density, broad bandwidth wavelength division multiplexer with highly non-uniform Bragg-Littrow holographic grating
TL;DR: In this article, a volume non-uniform holographic dispersion grating is used to record the Bragg plane sets recorded in the grating, which enables operation of the multiplexer or other devices that act on light waves according to wavelength over nearly the full usable 0.8-1.3 μm wavelength range.
