Abstract
An information recording system includes a writing paper having a writing surface and a prerecorded invisible pattern of pixels associated with the writing surface. Each of the pixels contains encoded, optically readable position information which identifies a coordinate position on the writing surface. The system further includes a pen having a tip and including an instrument for writing on the writing surface and a detector for detecting the position of the tip on the writing surface by optically reading the pixels and obtaining position information when the tip is in contact with the surface. The system further includes a recording unit coupled to the pen and responsive to the position information for electronically recording the position of the pen tip on the writing surface as the markings are made on the writing surface so that the recording unit contains an electronic representation of the markings on the writing surface.

Sensing device for coded data

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a sensing device for: sensing coded data disposed on a surface; and generating interaction data based on the sensed coded data, the interaction data being indicative of interaction of the sensing device with the surface; the device comprising an image sensor for capturing image information; at least one analog to digital converter for converting the captured image information into image data; an image processor for processing the image data to generate processed image data.

Head mounted display with wave front modulator

TL;DR: In this article, a controller uses wave front modulation to match the curvature of the wave fronts of light reflected from the display device to the user's eyes with the curvatures of the waves that would be transmitted through the device display if the virtual imagery were situated at a predetermined position relative to the surface, such that the user sees the virtual images at the predetermined position regardless of changes in position of the users' eyes with respect to the see-through display.

Computer interface employing a manipulated object with absolute pose detection component and a display

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a system that has a remote control, equipped with a relative motion sensor that outputs data indicative of a change in position of the wand, which includes the absolute position of a reference point chosen on the wand and the absolute orientation.

Mobile phone with interactive printer

TL;DR: In this article, a mobile telephone is used as a base station for a machine readable code sensor pen (62) to enable connection of the pen with a computer system, and the telephone may also include a sensor (80) for sensing the machine-readable code and/or a printer (12) for mobile printing of coded substrates.

Optical stylus and passive digitizing tablet data input system

TL;DR: In this paper, a stylus and table X-Y data input system for a video display system is presented, where absolute positional information is encoded in binary form in the tablet in such a fashion that the pen position upon the tablet is automatically determinable by illuminating a particular area of the tablet and reading off the digitized XY coordinate data stored therein.

Narrow-bodied, single-and twin-windowed portable laser scanning head for reading bar code symbols

TL;DR: In this paper, a narrow-bodied, single-and twin-windowed, hand-held, laser scanning head for reading bar code symbols includes at least one window mounted at the rear region of the head, and through which either the incident beam going to the symbol and/or the reflected beam returning from the symbol, passes unobstructedly and exteriorly of, and past, the front and intermediate body regions of the leader.

Instant portable bar code reader

TL;DR: In this article, a portable instant bar code reader including a hand-held reader unit having a flash type illuminator is triggered to illuminate a bar code label positioned adjacent to a light receiving window of the reader.
Patent

Hand-held instant bar code reader system with automated focus based on distance measurements

TL;DR: In the instant reading of bar codes by flash illumination, the disclosed system automatically adapts to bar code configurations of greater extent and curvature, for example by measuring distance to one or more points on the bar code and adjusting a lens barrel, and/or by selecting from multiple image paths through a lens system as discussed by the authors.

Coordinates input apparatus

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a means for computing the distance between the input pen and the vibration detection means from the time determined by the control means, where the time of arrival of the vibration is defined as the zero-cross point of the signal.
