Abstract
A software package for the preliminary processing of data from the Delta scanning radiometer, developed at the Center for the Processing and Storage of Space Information (CPSSI), Russian Academy of Sciences, is described. The objectives of the preliminary processing are data reduction in conformance with EOSDIS requirements for a type 1 a information product and organization of long-term data storage in the CPSSI database in a standard HDF format and access to it via the Internet. The data processing includes filtering, correction of rotation of the polarization plane of the recorded data, calibration of data, synthesis of radiothermal images, and storage. The bulk of the processing was performed using specially developed adaptive and robust algorithms taking into account the specifics of data from the Delta radiometer. Methods and algorithms for processing are described and some examples of the processed data are presented.

SSM/I instrument evaluation

TL;DR: The results of this effort demonstrate that the SSM/I is a stable, sensitive, and well-calibrated microwave radiometric system capable of providing accurate brightness temperatures for microwave images of the Earth and for use by environmental product retrieval algorithms.

Optimum interpolation of imaging microwave radiometer data

TL;DR: In this paper, a technique of interpolating imaging microwave radiometer data is presented as an application of the Backus-Gilbert theory, which is applied to the Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I) satellite data and is found to enhance the high-resolution features of the imagery.

The Seasat scanning multichannel microwave radiometer (SMMR): Instrument description and performance

TL;DR: The scanning multichannel microwave radiometer (SMMR) is an imaging 5-frequency radiometer flown on the Seasat and Nimbus-7 earth satellites launched in 1978 as mentioned in this paper.

A technique for enhancing and matching the resolution of microwave measurements from the SSM/I instrument

TL;DR: A correction technique for matching the resolution of all the frequencies of the SSM/I to the 25-km spatial resolution of the 37-GHz channel is described and it is found that the approach produces adequate enhancement of the spatial resolution to make such a correction worthwhile.

Spatial resolution improvement of SSM/I data with image restoration techniques

TL;DR: Application of this algorithm to a scene from the Weddell Sea results in an image with enhanced ice edge and coast definition and ice concentration estimates near the edge agree more closely with higher resolution (optical) data from AVHRR.
