Uteroglobin: Structure, Molecular Biology, and New Perspectives on Its Function as a Phospholipase A2 Inhibitor

TL;DR: This hypothesis may lend support to the suggestion that P may be nature's immunosuppressant during pregnancy and the structural similarities of UG with phospholipase A2 and with other PLA2 inhibitory proteins like lipocortins may suggest that the physiological function of this protein may be primarily immunomodulatory through its function as a PLA2 inhibitor.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantitative and Qualitative Variation in the Secretion of Protein by the Porcine Uterus during the Estrous Cycle

TL;DR: The daily variation in protein content of porcine uterine flushings were studied on Days 2-18 and Day 20 of the estrous cycle and indicated that theproteinmilieu ofuterinesecretions changes quantitatively and qualitatively during theEstrous cycle.
Journal ArticleDOI

Purification and properties of a progesterone-induced basic glycoprotein from the uterine fluids of pigs.

TL;DR: This protein is strongly basic and migrates toward the cathode during polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis at pH 7.0 and has a characteristic lavender color with an extinction maximum at 545 nm and gives a positive reaction with periodic acidSchiff stain.
Journal ArticleDOI

Purification and quaternary structure of the hormonally induced protein uteroglobin

TL;DR: Data suggest that uteroglobin is composed of two similar, if not identical, subunits aligned in parallel and held together, among other forces, by two disulfide bridges, supported by the results of cleavage experiments with cyanogen bromide and trypsin and bears interesting implications for the biosynthesis of uteroglobin and its interaction with ovarian steroids.

Protein Measurement with the Folin Phenol Reagent

TL;DR: Procedures are described for measuring protein in solution or after precipitation with acids or other agents, and for the determination of as little as 0.2 gamma of protein.
Journal ArticleDOI

"Blastokinin": inducer and regulator of blastocyst development in the rabbit uterus.

TL;DR: A protein fraction that induces blastulation of rabbit morula and stimulates blastocyst development has been isolated from the uterus of the rabbit at early pregnancy and the term "blastokinin" is proposed to describe the compound.
Journal ArticleDOI

Studies on the Transfer of Fertilized Mouse Eggs to Uterine Foster-Mothers: I. Factors Affecting the Implantation and Survival of Native and Transferred Eggs

TL;DR: It is concluded that with reasonable control of natural and technical hazards a yield of about 50% of fertilized mouse eggs recovered as live young should be attainable.
Journal ArticleDOI

Physiology of the corpus luteum

TL;DR: The growth and implantation of embryos after early ablation of the o varies was studied in rabbits given extracts of corpus luteum to indicate that normal implantation and growth may occur in the presence of corpusluteum extracts.
