Predicting matrix failure in composite structures using a hybrid failure criterion

TL;DR: In this article, the authors performed several four point bend tests on a typical stacking sequence used in composite structures and found that matrix failure was poorly predicted at the lamina level, whilst a hybrid failure criterion incorporating the 1st Stress Invariant and Drucker-Prager failure criterion at the micromechanical level gave a much better prediction.

Development of a finite strip method for efficient prediction of buckling and post-buckling in composite laminates containing a cutout with/without stiffener

TL;DR: In this article, a semi-energy finite strip method (SE-FSM) is developed in the framework of nonlinear deformation to analyze the buckling behavior of stiffened/unstiffened laminated composites having a circular notch.

A discrete crack network toolkit for Abaqus for damage and residual strength prediction of laminated composites

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors exploit a phantom paired element based discrete crack network toolkit for predicting the damage progression and residual strength of laminated composites in order to predict the residual strength.

Effect of hygrothermal condition on buckling and post-buckling performance of CCF300/5228A aero composite stiffened panel under axial compression

TL;DR: In this paper, aero composite stiffened panels achieved absorbing saturation in hygrothermal condition (70℃ distilled water), whose absorbing process followed the Fick law.

Yielding of steel sheets containing slits

TL;DR: In this article, a relation between extent of plastic yielding and external load applied was investigated, and panels containing internal and edge slits were loaded in tension and lengths of plastic zones were measured.

The mathematical theory of equilibrium cracks in brittle fracture

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a unified view of the way basic problems in the theory of equilibrium cracks are formulated and discuss the results obtained thereby, and the object of the theory is the study of the equilibrium of solids in the presence of cracks.

Measurement of mixed-mode delamination fracture toughness of unidirectional glass/epoxy composites with mixed-mode bending apparatus

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the initiation of cracking and delamination growth in a unidirectional glass/epoxy composite under mode I, mode ZZ, and mixed mode I + II static loading.

Stress Fracture Criteria for Laminated Composites Containing Stress Concentrations

TL;DR: In this paper, two related criteria based on stress distribution are presented for predicting the uniaxial tensile strength of laminated composites containing through the thickness discontinuities of a general shape.
