Burnout and Engagement in University Students A Cross-National Study

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined burnout and engagement in university students from Spain (n = 623), Portugal and the Netherlands, and found that the expected three-factor structures of the adapted versions of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) for students (including exhaustionion, Cynicism, and Reduced Efficacy) and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) fitted to the data of each sample.

How obstacles and facilitators predict academic performance: the mediating role of study burnout and engagement.

TL;DR: The results illustrate that, although “success breeds success” (i.e., the best predictor of future performance is past performance), positive psychological states like study engagement are also important in explaining future performance, at least more so than negative stateslike study burnout.
