The implications of the frequent overlap between reading and behavioural disorders in childhood are explored using follow-up findings on the secondary school progress and early work histories of four groups of boys, with an without reading retardation, and with and without behavioural disturbance. While the prognosis for the majority of the retarded readers appeared poor, certain particular features-high rates of early school leaving, unstable work records and especially depressed skill levels-characterized those with associated behavioural problems. The importance of separating out the effects of additional associated disorders and disadvantages in assessing the long-term prognosis for children with learning problems is discussed.read more

Adolescence-limited and life-course-persistent antisocial behavior: A developmental taxonomy.
TL;DR: It is suggested that delinquency conceals 2 distinct categories of individuals, each with a unique natural history and etiology: a small group engages in antisocial behavior of 1 sort or another at every life stage, whereas a larger group is antisocial only during adolescence.

Externalizing behavior problems and academic underachievement in childhood and adolescence: causal relationships and underlying mechanisms.
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed concepts and measurement issues surrounding externalizing behavior problems and academic underachievement, the strength and specificity of the covariation between these domains, and the viability of explanatory models that link these areas.

Development and risk factors of juvenile antisocial behavior and delinquency.
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focus on impulse control as it relates to antisocial and delinquent behavior in juveniles, and examine how different risk factors impinge on the development of antisocial behavior at different points in the life cycle.

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the evidence shows continuity in offending between adolescence and adulthood and continuity between prepubertal conduct problems and later offending, and three developmental processes of offending include activation, aggravation, and desistance.

Sturdy childhood predictors of adult antisocial behaviour: replications from longitudinal studies.
TL;DR: All types of antisocial behaviour in childhood predict a high level of antissocial behaviour in adulthood and each kind of adult antisocialbehaviour is predicted by the number of childhood antisocial behaviours, indicating that adult and childhood antis social behaviour both form syndrome and that these syndromes are closely interconnected.

Attainment and adjustment in two geographical areas. I--The prevalence of psychiatric disorder.
TL;DR: There was a true excess of behavioural deviance and psychiatric disorder in ILB children and the high rate of disorder applied to inner London as a whole (although it varied somewhat from division to division) and was not specific to the borough studied.

Attainment and adjustment in two geographical areas. II--The prevalence of specific reading retardation.
TL;DR: It is concluded that there is a real difference between London and the Isle of Wight in the prevalence of reading retardation and of reading backwardness.

Reading retardation and antisocial behaviour.
TL;DR: The results show a strong association between the two disorders but that boys with both disorders do not closely resemble either boys with only reading or boys withonly antisocial problems.
