Biology of Reproduction in Rubus

A L ~ o u ~ much information is available on the cytology of the species and varieties of culti~ated cherries, no fuI1 comparative account of theh ~ c~_romosome beha~dour has y e t appeared. Chromosome differentiation in girls section of P , r , u n u s is not pronounced, but a study of {he species and of various new hybrids gives us a clearer ~dew of their interrelations. Results of detailed cytological s tudy of cherries and related P,ru~us species are presented in this paper. The ~acw conclusions reached on the origin and constitution of cultivated cherries will be discussed in relation to our present knowledge of the taxonomy and genetics of the group. Special attention has Been paid ~,o quantitative data on the mete.phase configurations, and care has been taken ~:o avoid selection which would affect the data (B:[ather, 1959).

Bereits den prometaphasischen Bivalenten des Chromosoms 4 last sich mit Sicherheit ansehen, das bei Heterozygotie furIn(t)4-1 das Chiasma stets innerhalb der Inversion entsteht —, das demnach in bis zu 95% aller Meiosen eines Mannchen eine dikinetische Chromatidenbrucke mit akinetischem Fragment gebildet wird.

Kreuzungsversuche zeigen — in Verbindung mit kontrollierter Aufzucht und cytologischer Analyse — das inversions-heterozygote♂♂ (In4-1) eine voll lebensfahige und cytologisch normale F1 ergeben.

Die Befunde lassen sich am besten so deuten, das die durch eine Chromatidenbrucke verbundenen Spermatiden in der Spermiohistogenese ganz oder teilweise miteinander verschmelzen, wie das bei einem anderen Objekt schon nachgewiesen ist (Wolf 1941). Die auf diese Weise entstandenen Doppelspermien sind vermutlich minderwertig und zur Besamung nicht fahig. Die Verringerung der absoluten Anzahl der normalen Spermien kann sich auf die Fertilitat und damit den Selektionswert der inversions-heterozygoten Mannchen in der Natur kaum auswirken.
