TLDR
In this article, a study of x-ray and electron excited luminescence in all alkali halides in the temperature range 4K to 300K is presented, where the lifetime and peak intensities of some bands have been measured as a function of temperature giving parameters characterizing quenching processes.
Abstract
Results are presented of a study of x-ray and electron excited luminescence in all alkali halides in the temperature range 4K to 300K. Details are given of the spectral distribution and lifetimes associated with the luminescence bands at about 5K. The lifetime and peak intensities of some bands have been measured as a function of temperature giving parameters characterizing quenching processes. These parameters confirm that many luminescence transitions are nearly forbidden and that the quenching process involves internal radiationless transitions.

Creation of lattice defects in the bulk and at the surface of alkali halide crystals

TL;DR: In this paper, a conduction electron is recaptured in the coulomb field of a self-trapped hole, and it is strongly attracted to the site of the halogen molecular ion on which the hole resides, and particularly to the alkali neighbors, but not to the Halogen atom core.

Proposed Excitonic Mechanism of Color-Center Formation in Alkali Halides

Herbert N. Hersh
- 12 Aug 1966 -
TL;DR: In this article, it is assumed that the progenitor for color center formation is a dissociating (excited) molecule: if this molecule is initially created, or subsequently placed, in an excited vibronic, predissociative, or repulsive state, it may dissociate into a normal halide ion and an uncaged atomic halogen fragment $X$ moving into an interstitial position and leaving behind a vacancy, according to the reaction.

F-centre production in alkali halides by electron-hole recombination and a subsequent [110] replacement sequence: a discussion of the electron-hole recombination

D Pooley
TL;DR: A model for F-centre production in alkali halides by ionizing radiation is discussed in this article, where the energy required for the formation of the defect is given to an anion in the radiationless recombination of an electron and a hole, which takes place via an exciton state.

Absorption Spectra of F - 2 , Cl - 2 , Br - 2 , and I - 2 in the Alkali Halides

TL;DR: In this article, the optical and paramagnetic resonance spectra of crystals containing one of the impurities were analyzed to identify the optical transitions of these centers, and the polarizations and relative intensities of the optical absorptions in the optical absorption in the x-ray irradiation at liquid nitrogen temperature were discussed.
