In this paper, a piezoelectric disc with surface electrodes is non-linearly polarized to transmit edge waves without plane waves, and several ultrasonic transducers with this property are described.Abstract:
Problems of resolution and focussing arise in the near field in systems employing radiation, including ultrasonic systems. These problems can be alleviated by suppressing the plane waves in the combination of plane waves and edge waves usually employed. Several ultrasonic transducers with this property are described and in one a piezoelectric disc with surface electrodes is non-linearly polarized to transmit edge waves without plane waves.read more

Large area ultrasonic transducer
TL;DR: In this article, a preferred embodiment of an improved large area ultrasonic transducer capable of reducing the generation of adverse "edge effect" waves is described, which has a thin piezoelectric wafer that has a high area tothickness ratio of preferably between 30 and 300.

Ultrasound transducers with reduced sidelobes and method for manufacture thereof
TL;DR: A transducer has tapered piezoelectric layer sides in order to reduce the sidelobe levels as discussed by the authors, and the matching layers disposed on the piezo-electric layer may similarly be tapered to further increase performance.

Method of CW doppler imaging using variably focused ultrasonic transducer array
TL;DR: In this article, a linear array of transducer elements with a first plurality of elements functioning as an ultrasonic wave transmitter and a second plurality of transducers functioning as a receiver of the reflected ultrasonic signal was employed for continuous wave (CW) Doppler imaging.

On-line measurement of ultrasonic velocities in web manufacturing processes
TL;DR: Improved ultrasonic energy transducers are employed wherein a material contacting member is secured to an interface region between oppositely operated first and second regions which intensify and amplify the movement of the interface region.

Ultrasonic diagnostic transducer assembly and system
Donald F. Specht,Dow Julian +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, an ultrasonic transducer assembly and system including a disc-shaped transducers element surrounded by ring shape transducers of different widths is presented. The transducers are switched so that the output signals for various depths have a small dynamic range whereby the dynamic range of associated amplifiers is significantly reduced.

Ultrasonic array for reflection imaging
TL;DR: In this paper, a pulsed ultrasonic beam is focused by a circular transducer array, which is arranged to provide a well-resolved narrow beam in one dimension as the pulsed wavefront propagates through the object under study.
