In this article, a generalized transfer matrix procedure is developed to obtain the required dynamic response solutions for a variety of loading and thermal conditions, including spectral densities of stress, response root mean square values and fatigue damage.Abstract:
The surface protection systems of aerospace and aircraft structures are often constructed from discretely stiffened panels. This paper presents an analytical study on dynamic stress response of these structures to random surface flow and acoustic loads. To account for aerodynamic heating of high speed flow, thermal effects are included in the structural model. A generalized transfer matrix procedure is developed to obtain the required dynamic response solutions. Numerical results include spectral densities of stress, response root mean square values and fatigue damage for a variety of loading and thermal conditions.read more

Piston Theory-A New Aerodynamic Tool for the Aeroelastician
TL;DR: In this paper, a point-function relationship between the local pressure on the surface of a wing and the normal component of fluid velocity produced by the wing's motion is predicted, and the computation of generalized forces in aeroelastic equations, such as the flutter determinant, is then reduced to elementary integrations of assumed modes of motion.

Cumulative damage laws for fatigue crack initiation and stage i propagation
K J Miller,K P Zachariah +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a simple model for the demarcation of the initiation and stage I fatigue crack growth phases is introduced, and experimental cumulative damage data are used to determine the phase boundary between these two regimes, and an exponential accumulation of damage theory is invoked for each; here, damage is equated to crack length.
