Room-temperature ionic liquids: a novel versatile lubricant

TLDR
Alkylimidazolium tetrafluoroborates are promising versatile lubricants for the contact of steel/steel, steel/aluminium, steel/(100), steel/copper, steel’sialon ceramics, Si3N4/SiO2 and steel/Si(100) show excellent friction reduction, antiwear performance and high load-carrying capacity.
